THE COLOR WAS BLUE
A Note About "The Color Was Blue" Music
There was an unexpected development that happened after the music for Music For Earth Orbit was developed, and it concerns the attacks on the World Trade Center on 9/11 2001. Several years after the attacks on 9/11 I was sitting in my living room listening Music For Earth Orbit and was listening to the song titled "The Color Was Blue". As I was listening I had vivid "visions" of seeing the planes hitting the Twin Towers in slow motion. I could see it all clearly... I saw it all in slow motion. I strongly felt the surreal mood I had experienced on 9/11 and the days immediately after. The vision that I had was clear and vivid. I knew right away that these images would work with this music. It seemed to me that the music would bring out the emotional impact of the disaster. After I had this vision I knew there was a link somehow in this music and I decided to follow it through. This lead to the creation, in 2006, of my "WTC 9/11" Music Memorial Video.
Though the mood and subject matter for this video was completely different than the original video on Music For Earth Orbit it was so powerful that this video was one that I felt had to be made.
This piece of music was very deep, and somber. It was unlike most other pieces on this album I recorded since it's nature and mood was more dark, mysterious, and profound. I believe that the common link in the music that works well with the 9/11 video footage is a sense of surrealism and deep emotion. For me, the music sets a mood of profound dignity, respect and solemnity. It also brings up emotions of sadness and loss. That tone is one I think is appropriate to remember this horrible day and all those who lost their lives. I also think it is appropriate to remember the families of those killed or wounded in this attack with the same solemnity, dignity, and respect. It is my goal to remember this fifth anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center with a creative piece of video and music which marks the occasion by again experiencing the intense emotions, shock, and disbelief of that day. One of my goals with this video was to create a representation of 911 that was universal in nature. I wanted it to appeal to people of all nationalities, of all languages, and backgrounds from around the world. I believe the music lends itself to the universality of this disaster. Since it has been made and put on the internet the "WTC 9/11" video has been viewed over a million times on several networking websites.
